Aiding flexibility and recovery…
What is sports massage therapy?
Sports massage therapy uses the latest modalities and techniques to ensure all soft tissues are balanced, therefore promoting flexibility, full range of movement, and speeding up the recovery process.
The primary aim of sports therapy is to restore full functionality to muscles and other soft tissues. This can simply mean easing the tension that has built up on your shoulders over long hours in the office or restoring maximum performance to an over-trained muscle-group in an athlete.
Sports therapy is also aimed at reversing and preventing sports-related injuries by focusing on specific muscles, tendons, or ligaments involved in physical sports injuries.
What are the benefits of sports massage therapy?
Sports therapy involves the treatment and management of injuries, including:
- Muscular Pain & Imbalance
- Ligament & Joint Pain
- Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI)
- Sprains & Strains
- Joint Stiffness or Instability
- Back Pain
- Frozen Shoulder
- Tennis Elbow.
Each session is customised according to the patient’s needs, in order to address personalised requirements and goals. This ensures that every customer receives the most effective treatment possible.
Who should do sports massage therapy?
At our clinic, we assist athletes and non-athletes in improving their performance and reducing their risk of injury by using techniques including deep tissue massage, stretching, and mobilising the joints.
Sports therapy can benefit everybody – it is not only for sports-people and dancers. In fact, many patients do not take part in sports.
Is there a difference between sports therapy and sports massage?
We often get asked this question. Our Sports therapy practitioner, Dr Chandoo, says:
Sports therapy involves a wider variety of strategies and treatments aimed at improving athletic performance, decreasing injuries, and improving range of motion. Sports massage treatment is different because it focuses on applying specific massage techniques to meet the needs of athletes and active persons.
